Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt of India has initiated “Star College Scheme” in 2008 to support colleges and university departments offering undergraduate education to improvise and strengthen both academic and physical infrastructure for achieving excellence in science teaching. It strives to enhance the quality of the learning and teaching process through ‘hands-on’ exposure for experimental work to various research laboratories and industries and encourage participation in summer and winter schools. In 2019, K.M. College was sanctioned the grant for three years by DBT, under the Star College Scheme for strengthening Education and Training at undergraduate level for four departments of our college i.e. Botany, Chemistry, Physics & Zoology. DBT has identified colleges with potential for excellence and provide academic and physical infrastructure for achieving excellence in teaching and unique exposure of students to experimental science. The colleges that successfully implement the strategy will be considered as life science ‘Star Colleges’.
