Department of Bengali, Kirori Mal College was established in the year 1963. But it came into existence in July 1969, When Ms. Shipra Choudhuri joined as a Bengali Faculty. In comparison, number of students studying Bengali in Delhi was minimal. It was a tiny department with only a B. A. (Pass) Bengali course. Principal after principal has helped to grow the Department.  After  Dr. Shipra Choudhuri’s retirement the department was run by an  Ad-hoc faculty.  Year by year past. Our Department comes to real look now. So Bengali Society will also be formed soon, named after “Akshor”.  The Department conducts seminars and many other events.

The Bengali Department aims to make students aware of the Bengali language and Literature, its ethnic linguistic history, stylistics in literary writings and contemporary form through teaching, research in different genres of writings, and extension activities along with the linguistic diversity of India. So, students can interact and collaborate with other departments for research and projects. It helps them to get more insights into multi-disciplinary perspectives beyond the syllabus. Our department does not offer Honors in Bengali to date, Despite our limited capacity the department has a practice of open interaction with the students and mentoring them for their holistic growth. And our sincere effort always will try to flourish the students in every way.

The core vision and priority of the Economics Department has been to provide quality learning in the core discipline with a multidimensional perspective and encourage the students to stretch beyond the confines of the given curricula and not to focus entirely on the proximate objective of examination success.

The Department has a tradition of open interaction with the students. There is an environment of trust, openness and easy approachability to the faculty members. Students are encouraged to approach teachers whenever they feel the need. The students are encouraged to discuss not only the problems they face in their course material but also larger issues and questions they have in their minds.

This vision has been reflected in a very large proportion of our students going for higher studies in Economics and later following up with research. Large numbers of our alumni are in teaching and research across universities and institutions and Corporates around the world and in India. We find a significant presence of our alumni in the prestigious conferences on Economics held in the country.

Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas.
