The National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in India in 1969, with the vision of fostering a sense of social responsibility and community service among students. Guided by the motto “Not Me But You,” NSS aims to develop a spirit of selfless service and to encourage students to engage in activities that benefit society at large.

NSS KMC, established in 2013, embodies these values through its impactful initiatives and projects. Originally, a group of dedicated volunteers began teaching underprivileged children on the temple stairs, marking the humble beginnings of the unit. Over the years, NSS KMC has grown significantly, with the current strength of volunteers and students reaching approximately 80-90 and 100-110 respectively thereby expanding its influence over the years.

Project SAHYOG is one of the core projects of NSS KMC, dedicated to providing daily educational support to underprivileged children of our adopted village Chandrawal. Through this project, volunteers work tirelessly to enhance the learning experience and academic progress of these children, helping to bridge educational gaps and promote their overall development.

,br>In addition to these core projects, NSS KMC is known for its flagship events: Aashayein, UMANG, Women Conclave and the Youth Parliament .

NSS KMC also organises numerous camps and drives throughout the year, such as dental checkups and blood donation camps, cleanliness drives etc. further exemplifying its commitment to community health and well-being. More light would be shed upon our projects,camps etc. in their respective sections.

The values of service and dedication are at the heart of NSS KMC’s operations. Every move is carefully deliberated by the volunteers to ensure maximum impact. The organisation remains steadfast in its mission to serve society, reflecting the essence of its motto, “Not Me But You.” Through continuous efforts and community engagement, NSS KMC strives to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many.


The National Service Scheme (NSS) operates under the motto "Not Me But You, " which signifies a commitment to selfless service and collective welfare. This motto emphasises the ethos of putting others' needs before one's own, promoting altruism and a sense of community. The NSS logo further symbolises this mission. It features a spinning wheel, representing the Indian struggle for independence and the ideals of self-reliance and unity. The wheel’s spokes signify the dynamic and continuous nature of service, while the colourr blue represents the sky's expansiveness, highlighting the boundless nature of our commitment to societal upliftment.
At NSS KMC, our vision is encapsulated in the phrase "Sahas se Sahyog Karein." Here, "Sahas" represents our initiative focused on women empowerment through various awareness campaigns and events. This project aims to educate and empower women, fostering an environment of equality and opportunity. Regular events and campaigns under "Sahas" address issues such as gender equality, self-defence, and economic independence, striving to create a more inclusive society.
"Sahyog," on the other hand, denotes our "Each One Teach One" (EOTO) project, which facilitates educational support for underprivileged children. Through daily sessions held at our college premises, this initiative aims to provide essential education and mentorship, bridging the gap between privilege and poverty. By engaging college students as mentors, we strive to inspire and uplift these children, ensuring they have access to knowledge and resources that can transform their lives.
Looking ahead, NSS KMC aims to expand both "Sahas" and "Sahyog" initiatives, incorporating more comprehensive programs and outreach efforts. We aspire to increase our impact by partnering with local organisations , enhancing our educational resources, and advocating for broader societal changes. Our goal is to foster a culture of continuous service and mutual support, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and enlightened society. Through these efforts, NSS KMC envisions a future where every individual is empowered to contribute positively to their community.


NSS KMC is a vibrant family comprising 100 members, including core members, coordinators, and volunteers. Each year, approximately 100 students are selected to join NSS KMC for a provisional period of one year. This selection is based on applications submitted via Google Forms, followed by interviews. Newly recruited first-year students, known as volunteers, are observed for their commitment and dedication to NSS KMC during this period. Their responsibilities include essential groundwork, such as teaching children through the Each One Teach One (EOTO) program, assisting in event preparation, and participating in various drives and camps.
At the end of the first year, a select group of dedicated and skilled volunteers are promoted to the role of Coordinators through a rigorous interview process. These second-year members take on greater responsibilities, ranging from administration and management to event planning and execution. They play a crucial role in the functioning of NSS KMC, serving as the backbone and ensuring smooth operation.
The Core team of third years possesses exclusive authority over all decision-making processes within the unit. This centralised structure supervises the functioning of the unit and its members. Any proposed alterations or modifications to existing procedures, policies, or initiatives require explicit approval from the core team before implementation. Essentially, the core team maintains ultimate control over the unit's direction and course of action.

Since its inception in 2013, NSS KMC has thrived under the unwavering guidance and support of our esteemed mentors. The Program Officers and Co-Convenors of our unit have played an instrumental role in shaping its trajectory and ensuring its success.

The Program Officer, the late Dr. Arun Kumar Tripathi, laid the foundational stone for NSS KMC with his visionary leadership. His commitment to the ideals of the National Service Scheme set a high standard for future endeavours. Following him, each Program Officer has contributed significantly to the growth and development of our unit. The baton has passed through several distinguished professors, culminating in our current Program Officer, Dr. Jeetesh Rai. Dr. Rai's dedication and innovative approach continue to inspire and drive our activities forward.

Equally crucial to our journey has been the support of our Co-Convenor, Dr. Vijendar Kumar Pandey. Dr. Pandey's enthusiasm and guidance have been vital in organising various events, campaigns, and workshops. His efforts, along with those of our Program Officers, embody the spirit and mission of NSS KMC.

The mentorship provided by these individuals has been the cornerstone of our achievements. They have not only facilitated the logistical aspects of our programs but have also imparted valuable lessons in professionalism and dedication. Their support has enabled us to organise a myriad of impactful activities, fostering a sense of community service among our volunteers.

Our mentors have consistently exemplified the motto of NSS: "Not Me But You." This guiding principle has inspired us to extend our reach and amplify our efforts in serving others. We are deeply grateful for their continued support and hope to uphold the high standards they have set. As we move forward, we remain committed to expanding our horizons and enhancing our impact, confident that the same spirit of collaboration and mentorship will guide us towards even greater achievements.

"Sahyog Se Sahas Karein," which translates to "be empowered and empower others to extend a helping hand, " embodies the essence of NSS-KMC. With a spirit of courage, volunteers of NSS-KMC contribute to community and social work through two main wings: SAHYOG – the "Child Empowerment Wing," and SAHAS – the "Women Empowerment Wing."

'Sahyog – Sharing Smiles', one of our ongoing projects, focuses on child development. This initiative aims for the holistic growth of underprivileged children by providing them with an abundance of knowledge, both academic and practical, which empowers them to progress and find their place in society. Through the EACH ONE TEACH ONE (EOTO) sessions, we aim to provide quality education to every underprivileged child in our adopted village, Chandrawal. In these sessions, our volunteers teach children up to grade 12 regularly from 3-5 pm on the college premises. Beyond academics, we offer them a safe, green space to play, fostering joy and growth every day. With a belief in nurturing their overall development, we conduct activities such as public speaking, essay writing, arts and crafts, dancing, singing, and more to allow them to express their unique talents. By teaching them about the significance of Indian festivals and celebrations, we foster an environment that preserves our culture and traditions. Together, we strive to make a lasting impact on their lives, helping them to dream big and achieve their potential.
‘Sahas: Empowering Women’ is a Women Empowerment Cell of NSS KMC which aims for upliftment and empowerment of unprivileged women. Under this initiative, we conduct various events and activities related to empowering women folk of the society, especially of Chandrawal village. As SAHAS, a unit of NSS KMC, we work relentlessly for a more inclusive, equal environment and thrive to set forth the ideal: feminism includes all genders.


In addition to our commitment to social service, NSS KMC is also well-known for hosting various events and celebrations. We have three flagship events: Aashayein, Women Conclave, and Umang.
AASHAYEIN, our NSS Diwali Mela, is a prominent celebration of our Project Sahyog. The event features a range of competitions, including ALANKARAN (a fashion show), diya decoration, rangoli making, a treasure hunt, meme-making, and a "Food without Fire" contest. Additionally, there are stalls adorned with beautiful art and crafts created by the children of Chandrawal, all designed to enhance the joy of Diwali.

UMANG is our annual cultural and sports event under Sahyog , offering students a wide range of activities. Highlights include cricket, badminton, track races, musical chairs, and kho-kho, among others, providing an exciting and vibrant experience. Sahyog students also have the opportunity to showcase their talents in dance and singing, making UMANG a comprehensive celebration of their diverse skills and interests.
WOMEN CONCLAVE, a flagship event of our project Sahas, explores the evolving dynamics of women's roles in society, highlighting their progress, challenges, and triumphs. It stands as a vibrant celebration of women's achievements and fostering empowerment. The event brings together prominent women leaders, youth icons & activists to discuss gender roles and rights & opportunities for women.


Other events organised by NSS KMC are Lok Neeti: Kirori Mal Youth Parliament for discussing the policies that address the current political issues, Pahal: Girl’s athletic meet, Pride Parade and Happy Feet: annual marathon under Supath: three day annual event, Sangharsh: fight against gender violence, Be your own Laxmi: Financial literacy session for underprivileged women, and Yuvaah: the annual youth week

Apart from organising events, NSS KMC also conducts various drives and camps, including plantation drives, pad distribution drives, cleanliness drives, blood donation camps, dental check-up camps, and more.

NSS KMC actively contributes to the community by raising awareness on various topics during Vigilance Awareness Week. In the spirit of fostering unity and compassion, NSS KMC also celebrates festivals such as Raksha Bandhan, Holi, Vasant Panchami and children's day together with their Sahyog students.

NSS KMC also participated in the G20 University Connect Finale at Bharat Mandapam where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and other eminent Indian personalities were present.

Demonstrating a commitment to national integration, NSS-KMC volunteers represent Delhi University by participating in National Integration Camps organised by the State NSS Cell every year which aim to foster unity among volunteers through diverse activities.

In addition, NSS- KMC volunteers were invited to several events organised by Delhi University. These included the 100th Convocation of Delhi University, attended by the Vice Chancellor, the Kavi Sammelan celebrating Samvidhan Amrit Mahotsav at the Convention Hall, and the Viksit Bharat Marathon, which promoted the importance of voting, from Victoria Lawn to the DU stadium, featuring guests like Sania Nehwal and Rajkumar Rao.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Kirori Mal College primarily focuses on its projects rather than its overall functioning. Despite this, the NSS unit organizes various workshops to provide volunteers and students with opportunities to learn new things. Here's a list of workshops conducted by NSS- KMC recent year.
  • Sexual Harassment and rights in collaboration with josh talks and ITC VIVEL - The session comprised talks and discussions on sexual harassment, cyber bullying anf safety. A lot of students form college actively participated in this.
  • Road safety workshop - The workshop aims to address a major issue on road safety, dwelling more upon defensive riding developing a road safety consciousness.
  • Understanding safe workplaces and rights at internships- This introduced the rights that individual have at a workplace in the context of sexual harassment of the women at the workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, Redressal) Act, 2013.
  • Calming Anxiety :Self care workshop- This workshop was organized by Saumya Mathur a phsychotherapist with a aim to help the student to create a state of inner calm, kindness for yourself.
  • Workshop on e-waste management -NSS-KMC in collaboration with E-Junki and Hulladek oraganized this. Mr. Devanahalli Chopra(entrepreneur and digital marketer) and Mr. Aditya rai(entrepreneur and digital markter) enlightened everyone about E-waste.
  • Self defence training programme - NSS-KMC in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell(IQAC) Organised this workshop with the objective of empowering young women with practical skills. The female volunteers were taught professional tips and self defence moves in order to ensure their protection.

At the core of SAHYOG lies a commitment to educational upliftment. . Students under SAHYOG have demonstrated exceptional academic growth, surpassing expectations in both regular school examinations and highly competitive entrance tests like the CUET-UG.

SAHAS has emerged as a beacon of hope for women, providing them with essential knowledge and skills to lead healthier, safer lives. Through a series of workshops and seminars, female volunteers and students have gained a deeper understanding of menstrual health, sexual harassment and cyberbullying prevention. This empowered women to protect themselves and create a safer environment for others.

NSS and KMC have played a pivotal role in inspiring a sense of civic responsibility among the youth. Their cleanliness drives and plantation initiatives have not only beautified the community but have also instilled a deep-rooted respect for the environment. By actively engaging young people in these endeavors, NSS-KMC have cultivated a generation of environmentally conscious citizens who are committed to sustainable

Their work has created a ripple effect of positive change, inspiring others to join the movement for social good. The success stories of students under SAHYOG and the empowered women through SAHAS serve as powerful examples of what can be achieved through collaborative efforts. This organization have motivated young people to become catalysts for transformation in their own communities.
