The Peace Club, Kirori Mal College was established in 2019 on the initiative of students and the support of the principal. The motto of the Peace Club is "Peace Begins with Me" which means that each of us can be peacemakers in the world. With the increasing violence in our society, we need to establish peace for the sake of humanity and the survival of life on earth with harmony.

The purpose of the club is to promote a culture of peace and strengthen the movement for peace and happiness in society by raising ambassadors of peace.

The Peace Club, Kirori Mal College has a mission to bring peace and harmony to our society.

The following are the objectives of The Peace Club:

1. Promoting and Sensitizing Peace: Help learners recognize the importance of peace i.e., why is peace important for me, my life, my family, and society For example, we cannot manifest our fullest potential if we are not peaceful. Get Inspired - learn about the power of one. Students learn about peacebuilders – people who have made a big difference in other people’s lives.
2. Self-awareness and Building Peaceful Behaviour: Helping learners become self-aware of their behaviour and tendencies which may be supporting or destroying peace i.e. my strengths and barriers to building peace.
For example, I may be a calm or friendly person so this is a strength that promotes peace. On the other hand, I may hold grudges against certain communities e.g. prejudice, etc. Peace begins with me, the focus is on inner change and strengthening peace in my life and behaviour:
  • My feeling and thoughts
  • My interactions at home
  • At college and outside
3. Spreading Awareness: Students undertake activities toraise awareness in their environment about the need tobuild peace. The emphasis is on conducting activitiesthat focus on peace, and mental health,and spread awareness for environmental sustainability. 4. Initiating Action Projects: Students plan togetherspecific peacebuilding activities and projects to practiceand promote peace. This could include:
  • Focusing on removing conflict from all areas of my life,
  • Learning how to deal with conflict in a non-violent way,
  • Promoting peace includes various themes such ascaring, sharing, respect, protecting the environment,honesty, listening, being non-judgmental, etc. 5.  Research ProjectsThe students could then decide to take up a project incollege to promote the culture of peace e.g. CreatingZones of Peace e.g. where everybody gets a chance totalk, no one is excluded,no one says unkind words,speaks gently, and shows respect for each other.Promote the Sustainable Development Goals in theCollege by engaging in a range of activities.

The Peace Club, Kirori Mal College has organized activities highlighting the importance of peace and harmony in society by delving into the crucial topics of mental health, environment sustainability, and geopolitics. Some important activities organized during 2023-24 are as follows-
  • Group Discussions: The students have organized monthly group discussions on important topics covering contemporary issues, such as the effect of meme culture on people highlighting the ill effects of social media, and have also discussed international war crises like the Israel-Palestine conflict. The reason behind such discussions is to make students aware of what is happening around the world and do research on these issues to understand how they affect humanity.
  • Exhibitions: The students organized the Seeds of Hope and Action (SOHA) exhibition in collaboration with BSG (Bharat Soka Gakkai). The BSG-SOHA exhibition focused on introducing people to an awareness of the culture of peace, human rights, and sustainability.
  • Visits: The members of the Peace Club have organized visits to Gandhi Smriti in collaboration with Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti. On the occasion of Interfaith Harmony Week, the members visited the Iskcon Temple and Lotus Temple. The main goal of visiting such places is to experience different spiritual and cultural practices. These visits also help students to cultivate interfaith harmony.
  • PAX GAIA’24: The annual flagship event of our society is PAX GAIA. This event features a diverse range of activities. This year PAX Gaia included Speaker Sessions, a BSG Exhibition, an Open Mic competition, a Treasure Hunt Competition, Nukkad-Natak, Dance, and musical performances.

The Peace Club, Kirori Mal College has organized the following seminars during 2023-2024:

1. Mind Over Matters: The Seminar was organised on 27th October, 2023. In this Seminar Dr. Gopal Chandra Mahakud, Assistant Professor ,Department of Psychology, University of Delhi shared his insights on managing stress and building resilience. He further discussed various aspects of mental health issues, ways to determine them, and how to help yourself and people around you to overcome mental stress.

2. Towards Tomorrow’s Climate: This seminar was organised on 24th November, 2023. In this Seminar, Dr. Ram Ratan, Sr. Manager of Climate Connect Digital enlightened us about the concepts of various scientific and mechanical methods of studying short-term and long-term climatic changes.

3. Decoding Mahatma Gandhi Narratives, Myths, and Realities:This seminar was organized on 5th February 2024. In this seminar Professor Gopal Ji Pradhan of Ambedkar University initiated thelecture by discussing how India’s unity was forged through resistance against British rule, citing examples like the reluctance of the Nizam of Hyderabad and Maharaja Hari Singh of Kashmir to integrate their territories with India. He further aimed to demystify all the myths and misconceptions about Mahatma Gandhi.

4. Mental Health Awareness: This seminar was organized in collaboration with MPower on 6th April 2024. In this Seminar, Kaushal Pawar, M.A. Clinical Psychology along with Maliha Sen enlightened us about the major reasons for degrading mental health in youth, ways to determine mental health issues, and its degrees, and explained the strategies that can strengthen our mental health.

5. Beyond Border Cultivating Peace in an Interconnected World Special focus on India and Neighbours: This seminar was organized on 30th April 2024. In this seminar, Ms. Shubhra Ranjan who is the founder of Shubhra Ranjan IAS Study, enlightened us about the intricacies of power and diplomacy with India's neighbouring countries primarily Pakistan & China for establishing effective conflict resolution and harmony.

6. B. R. Ambedkar: Pioneering Social Ecology for Peaceful Societies: This seminar was organized on 30th April 2024. In this seminar, Professor P. Kesava Kumar, Head of the Department of Philosophy, University of Delhi elaborated on the intricate threads of social dynamics and ecological harmony sowing the seeds for tranquillity and co-existence.

    The Peace Club is a dedicated organization fostering a culture of peace, tolerance, and understanding within our community. It is guided by the motto “Peace Begins with Me” which means to develop awareness about the things each of us can do to be peacemakers in our world and establish the vision of promoting non-violence and harmony, the club brings together individuals committed to creating a more peaceful world. Our mission is to educate, inspire, and empower members to be proactive agents of peace through various initiatives and activities. Peacebuilding Skills: The Peace Club provides a forum for discussion and research, promoting candid talks about social justice, international peace issues, and conflict resolution. Experts in peace studies and related subjects lead our workshops, seminars, and discussions. In order to improve members’ understanding of the complexities of peace and give them useful skills in mediation and conflict resolution, we also hold group talks.


    Intercultural Dialogue: Our goal continues to revolve around promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue as a means of fostering mutual respect, understanding, and appreciation among people from varied backgrounds. We also recognize the ability of music, painting, and other cultural expressions to advance harmony and peace. Through collaboration with other institutions, we strive to make a tangible impact.


    Leadership Development: The Peace Club offers chances for leadership development and personal improvement. Members can take on leadership roles, plan events, organize activities and lead projects, gaining valuable experience in teamwork and project management. As an active member of the Peace Club, you join a dedicated community of people who are passionate about improving the world and making it a better place. Together, we can establish enduring peace, promote understanding, and construct bridges. Come along with us as we change the world, one peaceful step at a time, starting with our community.
